1935 - Set in 1815 during the Battle of Waterloo (part of the Napoleonic wars), A lower-class girl climbs up the social ladder but ends up destroying her own life and the lives of those around her. Based on the play by Langdon Mitchell, which was based on the novel "Vanity Fair" by William Makepeace Thackeray. This is the first feature film in full, 3-strip Technicolor. Starring Miriam Hopkins, who was nominated for an Oscar for her performance, and Frances Dee, Cedric Hardwicke, Billie Burke, Alison Skipworth, and Nigel Bruce. Pat Nixon (Richard Nixon's wife) appears as Ballroom dance extra. Directed by Rouben Mamoulian, Running Time: 84 minutes. Also later known as "Lady of Fortune". |
