Movie Reviews of Where The Wild Things Are
- Where The Wild Things Are was good, but not for children. The movie seemed to be more aimed at adults who had read the book as children. Some of the dialogue was a little strange, and the movie moved very slowly for me. It was still beautiful to look at and I loved the little boy who played Max. He was actually a very talented young actor. Overall, I liked this movie, but I'm not sure I would watch it again.
- Where The Wild Things Are
This movie reminded me what it felt like to be hungry, full of desire and need...as a child. All too often I think we forget what it was like to be a kid - we think children are simple, easily pleased with a candy bar or a video - we want to pacate them and move on with the chores at hand of daily living. This movie is valuable for all of us to connect with that inner child who still wants to be able to access his/her inner monsters. The film suffers a bit from 'trying' to be hip at points - musically it has all the post modern trappings of cool, yet detached sounds which at times cut me off from the relationships of the monsters with Max. But I was pleasantly surprised that Dave Eggers and Spike Jonze actually crafted a plausible story out of a book I adore, but is nonethless very lean on plot. I was very moved by this film; the audacity of Max to attempt to create a world where only love and understanding exists seems very topical in this day and age.
