Movie Reviews of The Wolfman (2010 version)

  • Recently I saw a remake of The Wolfman. It had Anthony Hopkins and Hugo Weaving in it. Even though it was in color I thought it was nearly as good as the original version done in the 1940's.

A lot of the plot was the same in both movies. Lawrence Talbot returns to his family estate in England from America. He denfends someone from an attack by a wolf-like creature. It turns out that this creature is actually a werewolf-a man who can turn into a wolf at will especially on nights of the full moon. Lawrence Talbot beomces a werewolf himself and is hunted by the local police and an inspector from Scotland Yard. After his brother dies, he falls in love with his brother's fiance. She helps him to find peace.

My plot summary is short because there are a lot of surprises in this movie and I do not wish to spoil it for anyone going to see it. It is definitely worth seeing. A lotof modern movies get lost in the special effects. That would have been especially easy to do in a monster movie. Like the orginal version this movie stays concentrated on the characters. In the original version Lawrence Talbot gets attacked by pure mishcance. He happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. The modern version improves on that-Talbot is attacked because he disobeys his father's orders and goes out to try and stop the monster that is attacking the neighborhood. In doing so he brings his fate upon himself. which makes the entire movie better. Talbot is doomed and it makes the entire movie into a heart-felt tragedy instad of a guts and gore serial killer flick.

I would highly reccemmmend this move to anyone ecept the youngest children. There is not a lot of guts and gore but it may too intense for 7 or 8 year olds.

    Overall Rating-3 1/2 Stars out of 4.
