Movie Reviews of The Watchmen
- THE WATCHMEN
It was an englishman named alan moore, who produced what was arguably the magnum opus of super hero comic books in collaboration with english artist dare gibbons and colourist john higgins. In 1986, moore launched a self contained 12 issue, limited series published by the DC. The series was called 'the watchman ' and it was unlike anything the comic book industry had ever seen, it followed the characters to a definite end. The watchmen has been hailed as the best comic series ever. The watchmen has all the absorbing qualities of a tense thriller, it has a well paced storyline, compelling script, attractive artwork, and generous doses of graphic violence. Its a dramatic and gory finale for this 'adult' super hero story. Creatively, the focus of 'the watchmen' is on the structure, dave gibbon has used a mind panel grid layout though out the series and added recurring symbols such as a blood stained smiley face. The movie has received critical acclaim both in comic and mainstream press, and is regarded by critics as a seminal text of the comic cool medium after a number of attempts to adapt the series into a feature film. Fans off 'watchmen' have waited longer for a movie version. Snyder is deeply, sincerely in love with the source material. The movie is written by David Hayter and alex Tse; and moore has declined screen credit. The watchmen is too layered with existantial angst, with commentary on the super hero genre itself and even the odd profound statement on the human condition; it is too layered, too complex, too packed with meaning to compress into 160 minutes
