- Star Trek (2009)
The revamped version of the classic Star Trek franchise is a winner. Drawing in millions of old fans and new fans, the movie has the thrill of a Star Wars movie with the thoughtful complexity of the original Star Trek. Proclaimed to be both a sequel and a prequel, the clever twist of getting around simply making a prequel that retells old stories (and that would potentially anger hoards of hardcore trekkers), the writers were able to take the original Spock's storyline set where the Star Trek franchise leaves off and sends Nimoy's Spock back to the beginning, but in doing so creates an alternate universe, giving the future movies all new possibilities and story lines that need not stay true to previously established canon. The movie has turned into such a huge hit that thousands are not only becoming new fans, but are embracing the original Star Trek TV series and movies (myself included.) Even those who hate science fiction movies will love this movie, and that's the highest praise one can give to a movie.
- Like every other Trekkie in the world, I was both excited and anxious before the release of the latest “Star Trek” movie. It’s really hard for anyone to measure up to our hopes, dreams and expectations; but I have to say: Nice job! OK, you messed with the space/time continuum in ways I perhaps didn’t like, and as for Spock’s mother’s dress – what were you thinking? But mostly this was Star Trek; fast fu, gritty and sexy; in other words, just what we have been hungry for; oh, for it seems like centuries. The casting was great; I didn’t think the choice for Spock would work, but it did! This was a fun movie to watch, and I am looking forward to buying it when it comes out on DVD.
- Star Trek was a great movie. Lots of action, and the special effects were amazing. The plot line was also very good, which was nice because all the special effects and the actions didn't overwhelm the experience. The characters were well portrayed. A very modern and a very exciting twist to an old story. Highly recommended.
