  • JACKIE BROWN:
This is probably the twistiest movie Quentin Tarantino's ever made- the plot shifts constantly, and significant points just keep building up and occuring more and more frequently as the story progresses. What keeps it from getting irreparably tangled (or, worse- pedantic) is that famous Tarantino dialogue- the characters double-cross each other constantly and play their mind games at a dizzying pace, but it's the nuances of their speech, not deliberate setups or tricky double entendres, that indicate their intentions and influence perceptions.
Personally, I adore this film. Each actor, no matter how small their role, is at the absolute top of their game, and plays their part with wit, sophistication, and- best of all- soul. The tensions and emotions onscreen are addictingly, thrillingly palpable, and always layered with that characteristic brand of cool that Tarantino and writer Elmore Leonard are known for.
