Movie Reviews of Doubt

  • I watched the movie "Doubt" the other day. Meryl Streep gives a bravura performance as Sister Aloysius, a nun at a Catholic Church in the Bronx who believes that Father Flynn, a popular parish priest played by Philip Seymour Hoffman, has engaged in misconduct with one of the students at the parish school, of which Streep is the principal. Unfortunately for Streep's character, she has absolutely no proof that this occurred. Amy Adams plays Sister James, a young nun who does not believe that Flynn engaged in any wrongdoing. Streep and Hoffman both turn in exceptional performances, especially during the climactic scene in which Sister Aloysius angrily threatens to go to Father Flynn's superiors if he does not resign. Some critics believed that Viola Davis deserved an Oscar for her portrayal of the boy's mother. After watching the film, I would agree. This is excellent drama played out by some of America's finest actors, and should not be missed.
