Movie Reviews of Arsenic and Old Lace

  • Arsenic and Old Lace is a little known comedy from the 1930's starting Cary Grant as the nephew of two seemingly harmless spinster sisters who turn out to be serial killers. This may not sound like a comedic plot, but believe me, it will keep you in stitches. The sisters take in lonely, elderly gentlemen into their boarding house only to poison them with arsenic and then bury them in the basement. The problem arises when Cary Grant's criminally insane brother escapes from prison and hides in the sister's boarding house along with his plastic surgeon sidekick played by Peter Lorre. Cary Grant's timing is impecable and his portrayal of the only sane member of the family is hysterical. The movie is fast paced, and truly a gem.
