Review:

“Leap Year” ventures into the life of Anna (Amy Adams), a candid and charming female who decides to take the upper hand and propose her boyfriend for four years Jeremy (Adam Scott) following an Irish Custom. The journey to Ireland challenges her relationship and feelings for Jeremy as she meets an intriguing stranger. “Leap Year” is Anand Tucker’s lush take on the spirit and boldness of a woman who would battle all adversities to pitch up the perfect proposal for her beloved.

Following an Irish tradition that permits a woman to make a proposal to her lover on the twenty-ninth of February which he cannot refuse, Anna decides to follow her boyfriend to Ireland and pop the question. But her flight is diverted due to a storm to Wales from where she travels to Cork in a boat. Here she meets Declan (Mathew Goode), a grumpy inn-keeper whom she hires to drive her to Dublin so that she can pitch her proposal in time. The journey leads the duo through a series of bizarre moments involving an encounter with a herd of cows, an overnight stay at the inn where they come very close and a refuge in a church hosting a wedding where Declan reveals his tragic past. A confused Anna reaches Dublin and Jeremy proposes to her which she accepts leaving Declan heartbroken. What follows next is a stark revelation that makes Anna realize where her heart and loyalty lies.

Amy Adams is in her best form and keeps up her charms and energy throughout the film but it’s the clichéd plot and narrative that looses fuel half way that lets down the movie. The jokes are empty, the script unfunny and predictable to the degree that one can almost always tell what going to show up on the screen next. Well “Leap Year” proves that an attractive star cast is clearly not enough draw the audience to the theatres.
